KUCHING, Sept 7 2026: The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim today consented to the termination of the state of haze emergency declared for the entire Serian Division due to the haze situation.
The termination is effective today.

Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), in a statement, said the consent was made after taking into account the advice of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and the views of Premier Abang Johari Openg as well as reports from relevant agencies which showed that the Air Pollution Index (API) reading in Serian Division was no longer at the dangerous level.
“However, the haze situation in Sarawak has not yet fully recovered and the API readings in several areas, particularly Serian and Samarahan, are still at very unhealthy levels.
“The federal government and the Sarawak state government will continue to monitor the situation closely and residents in affected areas are advised to limit outdoor activities and always comply with the instructions of the authorities,” the PMO said.
The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim on Sept 4 consented to a declaration of haze emergency in the entire Serian Division due to haze condition which has reached a level of air pollution that is hazardous to the health and safety of the public.
The PMO had said the decision was made after taking into account the advice of Anwar and Abang Johari as well as relevant agencies regarding the level of air quality in the area.
“The necessary measures will be taken more effectively to protect the health and welfare of the affected residents,” the PMO said.
At the time of the declaration of state of haze emergency, the API reading was exceeding 500 - a category described as very hazardous.
As at 12noon today, the API readings in Serian have gone up from an unhealthy 193 at 8am to very unhealthy 222 as at 12noon.
THe API reading in Lundu has gone up to 260, this was followed by Samarahan (236), Serian (222) and Kanowit (222).
