Strong winds, skidded vehicle blamed for power outages in Kuala Baram and Pulau Bruit yesterday

KUCHING, June 3, 2017 : Strong winds in Kuala Baram and a vehicle felling a power pole in Pulau Bruit have been blamed for the power outages in the two areas yesterday.

One of the damaped high tension cable poles damaged by strong winds in Kuala Baram.

Strong winds caused havoc in Kuala Baram yesterday morning, causing damage, among others, to five cable poles,  disrupting power supply to about 500 customers in Kampung Masjid and the quarters of Customs and Excise Department and Sarawak River Board.

Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) regional manager for Miri, Tan Joo Kok said: “The repair works took some time due to its complexity and to the location of the  poles which are about 20 metres away from the roadside.

"However, all the five poles were erected at midnight, but work to install  the cables had to  be stopped due to heavy rain.

"As safety of our team is a priority, we are continuing works today to complete the repair and to restore supply to the affected areas," he said.

Meanwhile in Pulau Bruit, power outage occurred about 8am  after a 4wheel vehicle felled a high tension (HT) cable pole located at Lepah, Tanjung Manis.

It disrupted power supply to  Pulau Bruit and Nanga Semah, affecting about 2000 customers.

The supply to the areas was fully restored by 5.30pm yesterday following completion of repair works.
