Three injured after their car hit palm oil fruits fallen on the road

SERIAN, Aug 25 2026: Three persons were seriously injured when a car they were travelling in hit several palm oil fruits that had fallen on the Pan Borneo Highway, near Balai Ringin bazaar here this afternoon.

Serian Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), in a statement, said two of them were rushed to the Serian district hospital and the third, to the nearby Balai Ringin Clinic.

The department said it received an emergency call about the incident at 3.30pm, and immediately despatched a team to the scene.

The front of the car was badly damaged after hitting the palm oil fruits.

 

 

13 projek baharu berjumlah RM500 juta bakal lonjak pembangunan Pantu

PANTU, 25 Ogos 2026: Daerah Pantu bakal menyaksikan lonjakan pembangunan apabila sebanyak 13 projek baharu dicadangkan untuk dilaksanakan dengan anggaran kos keseluruhan mencecah M500 juta.

Timbalan Menteri Pelancongan, Industri Kreatif dan Seni Persembahan Sarawak merangkap Ahli Dewan Undangan Negeri (ADUN) Balai Ringin Snowdan Lawan berkata, kesemua projek berkenaan melibatkan peruntukan daripada Agensi Pembangunan Sri Aman (SADA), Majlis Daerah Sri Aman (MDSA) dan beberapa agensi kerajaan lain.

Menurut beliau, antara projek utama ialah pembinaan Jalan Muding-Tuba-Mentu sepanjang 42 kilometer (km) oleh Kementerian Kemajuan Desa dan Wilayah (KKDW) dan Jabatan Kerja Raya (JKR) dengan kos RM265.5 juta yang sedang dilaksanakan.

“Ia diikuti dengan cadangan projek Jalan Menangkin/Menuang berjumlah RM77.5 juta, cadangan projek Jalan Batang Strap-Sapak-Isu-Munggu Ubah bernilai RM60.3 juta, projek Jalan Sebemban/Gayau bernilai RM38.2 juta yang sudah ditender dan projek Jalan Munggu Ubah bernilai RM35.8 juta yang dijangka siap pada Mei 2027,” katanya.

Beliau berkata demikian ketika berucap merasmikan Program Randau Ruai Bersama YB Datuk Snowdan Lawan di Rumah Augustine Entika, Rapak Tepus, di sini pada Selasa.

Tambahnya, baki projek yang dicadangkan ialah pembinaan Jeti Pantu bernilai RM2.3 juta oleh JKR, projek perparitan Pantu bernilai RM6 juta oleh Jabatan Pengairan dan Saliran, jalan kebun Abok bernilai RM782,000 serta jalan kebun Kampung Limau bernilai RM1.42 juta menerusi SADA dan Jabatan Pertanian.

Selain itu ujarnya, turut dicadangkan adalah untuk membina jalan menuju Wong Jaban @ Jaong Pantu bernilai RM4.625 juta, jalan menuju Wong Beranggong @ Abok bernilai RM1.3 juta oleh SADA serta MDSA, jalan kebun @ Bukit Kukuk, Sungai Merah bernilai RM894,000 dan projek awal pembukaan tapak Pejabat Daerah Pantu baharu bernilai RM5 juta.

"Justeru, saya berharap agar semua cadangan termasuk projek yang sedang dilaksanakan ini dapat memberi impak besar terhadap pembangunan Daerah Pantu khususnya dari segi kemudahan asas, jaringan jalan raya serta kesejahteraan penduduk luar bandar," katanya lagi.

Pada program sama, beliau turut mengumumkan peruntukan Projek Kecil Luar Bandar (MRP) berjumlah RM15,000 kepada Jawatankuasa Kemajuan dan Keselamatan Kampung (JKKK) Rapak Tepus, selain RM5,000 kepada Biro Wanita organisasi berkenaan. -EDISI UKAS

Be the eyes and ears of government to detect any development activity that can affect the environment, community leaders told

LAWAS, Aug 25 2026: Deputy Premier Awang Tengah Ali Hasan has asked the community  leaders and and village headmen to be the eyes and ears of the government to help detect early any development activity that has the potential to affect the environment in Lawas district.

He said their involvement, together with the local communities, is crucial to ensuring that rapid development in the district can be executed in a balanced manner without neglecting environmental sustainability.

“The environment is not the sole responsibility of the government; it is a shared responsibility of the entire community.

“The community leaders and village headmen hold a very important position as a bridge between the community and government agencies,” he said.

He was speaking at a seminar on Empowering Community Leaders and Village Headmen in Environmental Care Towards Sustainable Development of Lawas District 2026 today.

According to him, development should not be evaluated solely based on economic growth and physical development, but must instead take into account its effects on the environment and community wellbeing.

He noted that they can assist by relaying information regarding issues such as open burning, river pollution, illegal dumping, and encroachment on sensitive areas to relevant agencies for further action.

He also emphasised the need to shift the environmental care approach from reactive measures after an issue occurs to continuous monitoring and prevention.

At the same time, Controller of Environmental Quality Jack Liam stated that a total of 34 development projects in Lawas are currently being monitored by the Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) to ensure compliance with Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) approval conditions.

These projects comprise 13 infrastructure projects, six real estate projects, one forestry project, 10 agricultural projects, as well as four quarry and mining projects.

“NREB officers cannot be on the ground every single day.

“Therefore, the cooperation of KMKK and the local community is greatly needed to channel information and input regarding development activities in their respective areas,” he said.

He noted that collaboration among NREB, community leaders and local communities will help reinforce environmental monitoring and enforcement, particularly as Lawas continues to grow with various development projects.

At the same event, a total of 193 compensation cheques and 63 land title letters were presented to recipients involved in the Northern Coastal Highway (NCH) project and the Sarawak-Sabah Link Road (SSLR) alignment.

 

PBK hits back at DAP, being part of the federal government, of failing to secure restoration of full control by Sarawak over oil and gas resources

KUCHING, Aug 25 2026: Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) president Voon Lee Shan has told Sarawak DAP to stop lecturing PBK about serving the people of Sarawak and Sabah.

Instead, he accused the DAP, as part of the federal government, of failing to secure the restoration of full control by Sarawak and Sabah over their oil and gas resources.

“DAP is still in the federal government and it also did not repeal, or fundamentally reform, the Petroleum Development Act 1974, the Territorial Sea Act 2012, or the Continental Shelf Act 1966,” Voon said in a statement.

He said these laws remain central to continuing disputes concerning the extent of Sarawak's and Sabah's authority over their natural resources, territorial waters and continental shelf.

He said DAP cannot remain silent on laws and policies that have, in the view of many Sarawakians and Sabahans, progressively reduced the practical authority and autonomy of the Borneo territories.

Voon also reminded that the political future, constitutional status, economic rights and control over natural resources of Sarawak are themselves the people's concerns.

“For decades, the people of Sarawak have been told that Malaysia is a federation based upon equality and partnership.

“Yet Sarawak's authority over its own resources, territorial waters and development has been repeatedly affected by federal laws and policies enacted from Kuala Lumpur,” Voon, a senior lawyer, said.

Early today, Sarawak DAP Socialist Youth (DAPSY) organising secretary Chong Hong Hien has told PBK should look at itself before crticising the Sarawak DAP.

“PBK is a very typical election party. Since the 2021 Sarawak state election, it has yet to establish even a single basic service centre.

“More importantly, despite not having established any service centre, PBK was nevertheless able to travel to Sabah to participate in the Sabah state election held at the end of last year,” Chong said in a statement.

He wondered if PBK is genuinely committed to serving the people of Sarawak and truly wants to be the eyes and ears of Sarawakians in SLA, overseeing the Sarawak government, then it should not merely keep repeating the seemingly attractive slogan of ‘Sarawak independence’.

“ Instead, it should serve the people of Sarawak on the ground, reach out to communities, understand the problems faced by the people, and criticise unfair and unreasonable policies of the Sarawak government,” he said.
