MARUDI, July 22 2026: The villagers involved in a search and rescue (S&R) operations have found the body of a 38-year man on the bank of Batang Baram this afternoon. He was a resident of Long Selatong in the deep interior of Baram.

His 43-year old wife, however, is still missing following a boat tragedy along Batang Baram three days ago.
The body of their 4-year old son was found floating in Batang Baram yesterday.
A 45-year old resident of Long Selatong villages also still missing.
Marudi Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), in a statement,said the body of 38-year old man was found by residents of Long Na'ah village on the riverbank, approximately two hours by boat from the location of the boat wreck.
The family members identified the deceased and was confirmed by a medical officer from the Long Na'ah Clinic.
The victim's body was taken by the police and family to the victim's home.
The Fire and Rescue Department said it received a call about 12.30pm yesterday, informing about a boat,. with four persons on board, had capsised a day earlier.
Based on a police report, approximately 11:23 am yesterday, the police received information from the public via the WhatsApp application informing them that there were four individuals who had reportedly not returned home since July 20, 2026 and were feared to be involved in the boat sinking incident.
All victims were from Kampung Long Selatong and were believed to be on their way to the Long San Health Clinic using a boat on July 20, 2026.
However, they failed to return home and could not be contacted by phone.
The villagers later found a boat believed to be carrying the victim that had capsized .
