Don't think national politics has no bearing on Sarawak's politics, cautions political scientist

KUCHING, Aug 5 2026: Political scientist Professor  Dr Jayum Jawan cautioned Sarawakians against thinking that Malayan politics should not and no bearing on Sarawak’s politics.

He said it is not entirely true as national politics not only help shape but can dominate local politics, such as in Sabah and Sarawak.

“Is not 60 years of PBB's domination in Sarawak, from 1970 to the present, not assisted from the centre?” he asked in his Facebook post.

“But now "kacang lupakan kulit" says a Malay proverb.

“Otherwise, would it be possible for a 26% to dominate over 45% for more than a half of a century?” he posed.

“ In the words of iconic RTM newscaster Farit Ismeth Emir: pikir-pikirkanlah,” he said, quoting the late former RTM newscaster.
