SIMUNJAN: The Boiler Market @ Simunjan commercial development project marked another important milestone when Package A was officially handed over by the Land Development and Conservation Authority (LCDA) to the Simunjan District Council, thus opening a new chapter for economic development and entrepreneurial opportunities in the district.
The development project worth RM16.3 million is among the development initiatives that have been successfully brought to Simunjan as a result of the continuous efforts of the Simunjan State Legislative Member (SLM) Awla Dris in championing development and facilities that benefit the local community.
LCDA Project Manager, Wan Mohamad Mizan said that the project was implemented according to the approved specifications and development plan to create a modern commercial centre that can be a catalyst for Simunjan's economic growth.
According to him, Package A includes the construction of a food court that houses food stalls, cottage industries and a visitors' market that includes wet and dry market stalls, in addition to being equipped with a playground, reservoir, drainage system and basic facilities such as public toilets, stores and pump rooms.
"This food court can accommodate more than 300 visitors at a time, while the entire development is designed to provide a comfortable environment for traders and visitors," he said during the Official Handover Ceremony of Package A of Boiler Market @ Simunjan to the Simunjan District Council, on Wednesday.
He added that LCDA will continue the next phase of development through Package B which is scheduled to begin next year involving the construction of 10 units of two-storey mini shops before being handed over to the Simunjan District Council for rental purposes.
In addition, Package C will be implemented by LCDA involving the construction of 10 units of two-storey shophouses to complete the development of the commercial ecosystem in the area.
Wan Mohamad Mizan explained that the location of Boiler Market @ Simunjan is very strategic because it is located near schools, government offices and sports complexes, thus having the potential to develop as a new economic growth centre or "Bandar Baharu" for Simunjan.
He said that the improving road network is also expected to attract visitors from Kuching, Samarahan and Serian, thus increasing trade and business activities in the area.
He also urged local entrepreneurs to take full advantage of the facilities provided by the government by offering unique and quality products and food to attract more visitors and boost the local economy.
The official handover ceremony was also witnessed by Awla Dris who previously announced the rebranding of the development as Boiler Market @ Simunjan, in line with the aspiration of making it a new landmark that can stimulate economic growth and become a focal point for the community in this district.
