Fatimah says state government to recalculate incentives for Sarawak para Malaysian Games athletes

SELANGOR, Sept 11 2026:  The Sarawak government will recalculate the proposed incentives for athletes who successfully contributed medals at the Para Malaysian Games (Para SUKMA) Selangor XXII 2026 before presenting the matter to  Premier Abang Johari Openg for consideration.

Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister Fatimah Abdullah said the recalculation will be made based on the number of gold, silver and bronze medals won by the Sarawak contingent.

She said the incentive structure used in Para SUKMA 2024 will serve as the basis of the recalculation before the total amount is presented to the Sarawak Premier.

“As what we have done previously, we will do the recalculations based on the total number of gold, silver and bronze medals.

“We will utilise the incentive calculation method used in 2024, and this amount will be presented to the Premier, where upon agreement, we will announce it,” she told reporters after the Sarawak Contingent Gala Dinner last night.

Following that, she said that the amount or form of the incentive cannot yet be announced because it must go through a consideration process first.

She also explained that the granting of this incentive should be implemented in tandem between SUKMA and Para SUKMA.

According to her, the two Games possess their own importance in the state's sports development agenda and should not be viewed separately.

"We also need to look at SUKMA because when we develop the event, we develop them together.

"It can't be SUKMA alone and it can't be Para SUKMA alone either. Both at the same time, God willing," she said.

She said that continued commitment to both branches will help Sarawak build a stronger sports ecosystem and give athletes the opportunity to achieve better performances.

Para Malaysian Games (SUKMA) named Noshazwani Maisara Marzuki as one of the brightest stars of the Para SUKMA Sarawak contingent, crowning her as the Para SUKMA Selangor XXII Best Female Para Athlete 2026.

Fatimah said Noshazwani's success proves the high potential of Sarawakian athletes when given the proper space, opportunity and support.

"Noshazwani managed to set two new records in the Para SUKMA Selangor 2026 through the women's shot put F37 event with a record of 8.93 metres, surpassing the previous record of 7.25 metres recorded in 2016, as well as the women's javelin throw F37 event with a record of 19.34 metres, thus breaking the old record of 18.57 metres recorded in 2024.

"This outstanding performance also qualified her to be honoured as the Para SUKMA Selangor 2026 Best Female Para Athlete," she said.

The award also allowed Nosyazwani to take home a cash prize of RM5,000.

In addition to Noshazwani, five other Sarawak athletes also set new records during the Games, namely Richard Bada, Nurfahani Kudus, Noria Bada, Galang Jabai and Rusdianto Rusmadi in the para athletics and para swimming events.
