MIRI, Sept 20 2026: Transport Minister Lee Kim Shin today handed over the Unit for Other Religions's (UNIFOR) allocation of RM95,000 to BEM Permyjaya Iban-language Church (RC1) in Miri.
Lee said the allocation is to fund the purchase of the church's equipment.
He said the provision of aid through UNIFOR reflects the Sarawak government's commitment to respecting religious freedom and enabling communities from diverse religious backgrounds to coexist in peace and harmony.
“The people of Sarawak have a tradition of celebrating various religious festivals together, reflecting the spirit of unity and mutual respect that serves as the state's strength,” he said during the presentation of the allocation.
He also touched upon several infrastructure developments in Miri, including free bus services, the new road project to Mulu, the development of Miri Port, and upgrading works at Miri Airport involving an allocation of RM445 million.
He noted that these developments reflect the Sarawak government's ongoing efforts to strengthen basic amenities and connectivity in Miri, thereby supporting economic development in the northern region of Sarawak.
