KUCHING, Sept 8 2026: Serian has joined Lundu entering the hazardous air quality category, and as at 6am this morning, the air pollutant index (API) recorded Serian as exceeding 300.
Yesterday, the state of haze emergency was lifted in the entire Serian Division when the API readings were registering less than 200.
Soon after the emergency was lifted, the API readings in Serian slowly began to rise again.
As at 6am today, Serian registered an API reading of 303.
Lundu, a town near the border with Kalimantan where the forest forest fires are still raging, recorded an API of 329.
The town entered the hazardous category yesterday.
The weather monitoring stations recorded five locations with a very unhealthy air quality.
Topping the list is Tebedu, a town near the border with Kalimantan, registering an API reading of 242, and this is followed by Kuching with an API reading of 241, then Samarahan 239,Simanggang 230 and Lubok Antu 212.
Bario, also a location near the border, recorded a good air quality. The API reading in Bario registered 38.
