The Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Project Coordinator for the Regional Development Agency, DBKU and Islamic Affairs) said there have been an increasingly widespread vandalism of the North Kuching City beautification assets.
He said such acts of vandalising public property are disgraceful and affecting the image of Kuching as a clean and friendly city.
“It starts with stealing materials that can be sold such as copper and small items. If there are no items to sell, then they will destroy the others,” he told reporters after the Kuching Division Mushaf Wakaf distribution ceremony at the Sarawak Islamic Complex Hall this evening.
He said there are also cases of potted plants on the roadsides being stolen.
It was reported that several areas in Petrajaya have seen the rise of vandalism cases, including decorations on the Taman Hussein flyover as well as floodlights installed on trees for beautification purposes, which were stolen by irresponsible parties.
Earlier, Dr Abdul Rahman symbolically presented mushaf wakaf to 50 recipients involving various departments, agencies and private bodies.
