PRS Youth wants its chief to be considered as a deputy minister

KUCHING, Nov 30 2025: Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Youth wing has said it will submit a recommendation for its chief Christopher Gira Sambang as a deputy minister for consideration by Premier Abang Johari Openg.

The wing explained that the need to represent the youth voice in the Cabinet is important to ensure policy continuity since the previous chief is a deputy minister.

“In line with efforts to strengthen the state's administrative structure, it is also proposed an additional full ministerial position, as well as  two or three additional deputy ministerial positions,” the wing said in a statement posted on DUN N.59 TAMIN Facebook.

It said the increase in PRS representation in the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government is aimed to speed up the decision-making process, strengthen development coordination and ensure that rural communities get a more significant voice at the Cabinet level.

The wing said the participation of more young leaders in the Cabinet is seen as a catalyst for quality governance and more balanced development throughout the state.

The wing at its second central committee meeting yesterday had unanimously approved several important resolutions regarding the latest developments in the Sarawak State Constitution.

It expressed its full support for the Sarawak State Constitution (Amendment) Bill 2025 which increases the number of state Cabinet ministers from 10 to 14.

The amendment is a strategic move to strengthen administrative capacity, improve the effectiveness of policy delivery and strengthening the state's preparedness in facing new development challenges, especially in rural areas.
